HERAT, Afghanistan, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed and 13 others got injured in a road accident in Herat province, western Afghanistan, on Wednesday, local police said.
"A passenger bus collided head-on with a truck in Adraskan district at early morning, leaving eight passengers dead and 13 others injured," Abdul Ahad Walizada, provincial police spokesman, told Xinhua.
The ill-fated bus was travelling from provincial capital of Herat city to remote Farsi district, he said.
Those among the killed were four women and two children.
The injured were shifted to the district's hospital and the traffic police have launched an investigation into the incident, the official added.
Reckless driving is mainly blamed for traffic incidents on congested roads and highways in the mountainous country.
