MAPUTO, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed and more were wounded when a passenger bus veered off the road and fell off a cliff on Wednesday near the city of Tete, central Mozambique.
An eyewitness told Xinhua that the cause for the accident might be speeding, which occurred on a hilltop road, two kilometers from its terminal.
At the time of accident the bus was carrying 22 passengers. The coach was travelling from the capital city Maputo, some 1,400 kilometers from the south.
Road mishaps are common in Mozambique due to recklessness in driving, bad road condition and poor maintenance of vehicles.
Over the past week, at least 19 people were killed in road accidents across the country, according to an update by Police of the Republic of Mozambique in its weekly briefing on Tuesday.
