KAMPALA, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Uganda Rugby Cranes head coach Tolbert Onyango named Wednesday his final 12-player squad for the 2018 World Rugby Sevens Series qualifier slated for April 6-8 in Hong Kong, China.

"After several months of training and also finishing third at the Victoria Falls 7s in Zimbabwe last weekend, I have been able to select the best team that will represent Uganda in Hong Kong and later travel for the Commonwealth Games in Australia," Onyango said.

Uganda will battle against Chile, Japan and Georgia in group E. The winners of the qualifier will join the elite top teams in the Rugby World 7s Series that include England, South Africa, New Zealand, Fiji and Kenya among others.

"This is going to be a very tough tournament because it is only the winner who qualifies for the World Series. We must take every game seriously and our target is to make sure we win every game," Onyango said.

Experienced player Michael Wokorach replaced Eric Kasiita as captain after the later withdrew from the team for personal reasons.

"We had a good test in Zimbabwe last weekend in the Victoria Falls 7s event and now we know what to do when we get to Hong Kong," added Wokorach.

The other teams that will battle in the World Sevens Series qualifier include Papua New Guinea, Germany, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Uruguay, Jamaica and Cook Islands.

Squad

Pius Ogena, Solomon Saulo Okia, Desire Ruhweza Ayera, Aaron Ofoyrwoth, Philip Wokorach, Micheal Wokorach, Lawrence Ssebuliba, Joseph Aredo, James Odongo, Adrian Kasito, Ivan Arthur Magomu, Timothy Kisiga.
