NEW DELHI, April 13 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and 34 others injured Friday after a bus fell off a bridge in eastern Indian state of Odisha, officials said.
The accident took place near Bhawanipatna district, about 400 km west of Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha.
"Today a bus carrying over 40 passengers skidded off the bridge and fell from a height of 30-feet," a police official said. "Two people - a child and conductor of bus - were killed and 34 others were injured in the accident."
According to officials, the bus was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Bhawanipatna.
Preliminary investigations revealed the driver of the ill-fated bus was attempting to overtake another bus but lost control over his vehicle.
The injured were rushed to hospitals in Cuttack, Berhampur and Burla.
Road accidents are common in India, often caused due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
