TOKYO, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened flat Monday as investors both sold issues on the back of Wall Street's declines late last week and bought on the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 1.41 points, or 0.01 percent, from Friday to 22,160.83.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 3.55 points, or 0.20 percent, at 1,754.68.
Precision instrument, and pulp and paper issues led those that declined, while insurance and bank issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
