SARAJEVO, May 2 (Xinhua) -- European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and EU enlargement commissioner Johannes Hahn have urged Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) political leaders to reach an agreement regarding electoral reform, a joint statement said on Wednesday.
Political leaders in BiH have to make an agreement on "how to amend the provisions of the electoral legislation following recent rulings of the Constitutional Court of BiH," Mogherini and Hahn said in the joint statement published on the official website of the EU delegation in BiH.
They recalled a European Commission report, issued on April 12, 2018, which called for the electoral framework to be urgently amended in order for BiH general elections in October 2018 to be smoothly implemented.
Mogherini and Hahn also pointed to the need for BiH political leaders to show willingness to "compromise on a solution with regard to the indirect elections of the Federation entity House of Peoples".
They said that holding elections and implementing the results were crucial for any democratic state aspiring to join the EU.
