CHICAGO, May 25 (Xinhua) -- A 13-year-old girl student and a teacher injured after a shooting incident occurred at Noblesville West Middle School in U.S. state of Indiana Friday morning.

The shooting suspect, a male student, has been taken into custody, local media reported.

It is reported that a class in the school was taking a test when the student suspect walked in, pulled out a gun and started firing. The suspect "fired about three to five shots," said a student, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The science teacher in the class ran at the suspect, swatted the gun out of his hand and tackled him to the ground, local media quoted a student as saying.

The situation was resolved "very quickly," said Noblesville Police Chief Kevin Jowitt at a news conference.

Jowitt said investigators believe the suspect acted alone. He did not release the suspect's name, or the names of the victims, who were taken to hospitals in Indianapolis.

The school is about 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

After the shooting, students were moved to the Noblesville High School gym, where their families could pick them up.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb issued a statement saying he and other state leaders were getting updates about the situation and that 100 state police officers had been made available to work with local law enforcement.

Noblesville has a population of about 50,000 people. Noblesville West Middle School has about 1,300 students.

The shooting happened just a week after the deadly rampage at Santa Fe High School in Texas that left 10 dead and more than a dozen injured.
