ADDIS ABABA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- A car accident in central Eritrea has killed 33 people, state media Eritrea TV said on Tuesday.

The accident happened when a bus travelling from Eritrea's capital Asmara north to a provincial city Keren overturned on the road, killing 33 and severely injuring 11 others.

The bus was carrying 45 people who were on a religious pilgrimage when it veered off the road, leading it to fall into an 80 meters deep ditch.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident with speeding suspected to be the most likely cause for the tragedy, reported Eritrea TV.
