NEW DELHI, June 7 (Xinhua) -- A paramilitary trooper of India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed and a policeman wounded Thursday in a gunfight with Naxals in India's eastern state of Jharkhand, officials said.
The gunfight broke out in the Dalbhaga-Arki area of the Saraikela-Kharsawan district at about 133 km southeast of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand.
"Today in the morning a joint team of CRPF and police launched a search operation in Saraikela area. During the process it came under heavy fire from Naxals, thereby triggering a gunfight," an official said. "During the stand-off a CRPF commando was killed and a policeman wounded."
So far there were no reports of damage to Naxals in the gunfight.
According to officials, the firing was still going on in the area until last reports poured in.
Currently Naxals are active in central and eastern India.
