SEOUL, June 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha said Thursday that South Korea-U.S. war games are an issue to be decided through consultations between military authorities of the two allies.
Kang made the remarks during a joint press conference in Seoul after holding a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono.
The top South Korean diplomat said the joint military exercises between Seoul and Washington are a matter between the allies and an issue to be decided between the military authorities after consultations.
The comment came after U.S. President Donald Trump told a press conference in Singapore Tuesday after holding a historic summit with top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un that he would halt the U.S.-South Korea war games as it is inappropriate to have such provocative military drills during a dialogue period.
Pompeo said at the press conference that Washington, Seoul and Tokyo agreed to continue efforts for complete, verifiable, irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
