CAIRO, June 28 (Xinhua) -- The defense ministers of Egypt, Greece and Cyprus attended on Thursday the main phase of the ongoing joint air and naval military drill held in the Egyptian regional waters of the Mediterranean Sea, the Egyptian military spokesman said in a statement.
"The phase involved carrying out several activities including planning and administrating joint air and naval combat operations against threats," said Egypt's military spokesman Tamer al-Refaay in the statement.
He added that the activities included exercises on carrying out air and sea reconnaissance, blocking hostile targets, coordinating searching and rescuing procedures and exchanging reports and information between concerned units.
Dubbed "Medusa 6," the joint air and naval drill is "one of the largest" held in the Mediterranean Sea due to the participation of Cyprus for the first time.
"Medusa 6" started on Monday and is expected to last for several days.
Egypt annually holds several military exercises with Arab, African and Western friendly states to boost military cooperation and share military expertise with them.
