NEW YORK, July 7 (Xinhua) -- The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) in New York City welcomed a record number of 7.35 million visitors in its 2018 fiscal year that began on July 1, 2017.
According to the renowned museum, more than 7.35 million visitors went to its three locations - The Met Fifth Avenue, The Met Cloisters and The Met Breuer - during the fiscal year ending on June 30.
The number marked the highest fiscal year attendance in the museum's history. While international visitors made up 34 percent of The Met's attendees, New Yorkers accounted for 32 percent.
The high attendance could be partly attributed to the acclaimed exhibit Michelangelo: Divine Draftsman and Designer, which ran from Nov. 13, 2017 to Feb. 12, 2018 and ushered in 702,516 visitors. It was the 10th most visited exhibit ever at the Met.
In addition to the record attendance, the Met had one of its best recent years for other income: 250 million U.S. dollars from donations, memberships and city funds.
