MOSCOW, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Federation Council, or the upper house of parliament, adopted on Wednesday a declaration calling for an end to the U.S. economic blockade of Cuba.
Sergei Kalashnikov, deputy chairman of the Council, called the declaration especially important ahead of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel's first visit to Russia on Nov. 1.
Cuba is expected to present a draft resolution on the need to end the U.S. economic, commercial and financial embargo to a United Nations (UN) plenary meeting on Oct. 31.
The Russian Federation Council called on the UN General Assembly, parliaments of UN member states and international parliamentary organizations to support the Cuban draft resolution.
On Oct. 18, Russia's State Duma, the lower parliament house, passed a separate declaration calling for an end to the U.S. economic embargo of Cuba.
