PHNOM PENH, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Wednesday expressed his deepest sympathy to the Philippines over the heavy casualties and property damage caused by tropical storm Tembin that ripped through parts of southern Philippines in the past few days.
"On behalf of the Cambodian government and people and in my own name, I'd like to extend my heartfelt sympathies and profound condolences to the government and people of the Philippines for the great loss from this natural disaster," he said in a speech during a get-together with about 14,000 garment factory workers in the southwestern Phnom Penh suburb.
The prime minister believed that under the leadership of the Philippine government, its people would overcome this natural disaster and rebuild their nation.
Tropical storm Tembin started lashing parts of Mindanao in the southern Philippines last Friday and triggered massive flash flooding and mudslides, leaving more than 300 people dead or missing and 70,000 people homeless.
