NEW DELHI, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese tech giant Xiaomi Wednesday launched Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro phones in India at an event here.
Alongside smartphones, the company also launched the Mi TV 4 series of televisions in the country.
"The biggest highlight of the new Xiaomi smartphones is the presence of the large 5.99-inch 18:9 display, the selfie-light module, as well as the large 4,000mAh battery," company officials said while giving out specifications of the new phones.
"Redmi Note 5 Pro is the world's first smartphone to feature the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636. In comparison to Redmi Note 5, it has a dual rear camera set up and a high resolution front camera."
The new smartphones will be exclusively available on Flipkart in the country, apart from Mi.com and the Mi Home retail stores.
The Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro would be available in India at a starting price of 156 U.S. dollars (INR 9,999) and 218 U.S. dollars (INR13,999) respectively.
"Right now, the focus is still on phones, few other smaller categories like Mi band, power banks, Mi Routers. And of course a new category that we have added is Mi TV. So let's first build our Mi TV business and then we'll think of launching more categories," Manu Kumar Jain, Managing Director Xiaomi India said.
