TOKYO, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday as Wall Street's recent winning streak lifted the market mood with investors contending with the yen's appreciation again the U.S. dollar.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 255.27 points, or 1.19 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 21,720.25.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 18.10 points, or 1.05 percent, to close at 1,737.37.
Electric power and gas, fishery, agriculture and forestry, and pulp and paper-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
