UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Four UN peacekeepers were killed and four others wounded on Wednesday when a UN vehicle they were in was hit by a roadside bomb in Mali, chief UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.
"We have just received information from the peacekeeping mission in Mali, indicating that a UN vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device on the Boni-Douentza Axis in the region of Mopti," he told reporters at a regular briefing. "Preliminary reports indicate that four peacekeepers were killed and four others were wounded," Dujarric said.
Mopti is located in the Inner Niger Delta region of Mali, northwest of the capital of Bamako.
The special representative of the secretary-general, Mahamat Saleh Annadif, condemned the attack, he said.
"We join him in extending condolences to the families of the victims and in wishing a speedy recovery to those injured," the spokesman said.
