BUENOS AIRES, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid forward Angel Correa has been recalled to Argentina's national squad for friendlies against Italy and Spain.
The 23-year-old, who last played for Argentina almost a year ago, is a surprise addition to the Albiceleste squad given he is not replacing an injured teammate.
It is understood that coach Jorge Sampaoli sees Correa as a necessary reinforcement as Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi and Juventus striker Paulo Dybala were again overlooked.
Argentina will play Italy in Manchester on March 23 before facing Spain in Madrid four days later.
Correa has scored eight goals in 42 matches across all competitions for Atletico Madrid this season.
The former San Lorenzo player has been capped eight times for Argentina, scoring one goal.
