MAIMANA, Afghanistan, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Taliban's attempt to overrun Kohistan district in Afghanistan's restive northern Faryab province had been repulsed and the militants fled away leaving 15 bodies behind, police spokesman in the northern region Sayed Sarwar Hussaini said on Friday.
A group of Taliban insurgents, according to the official, launched coordinated offensives against security checkpoints on Thursday to overrun the headquarters of Kohistan districts but their attempts had been foiled as security forces retaliated.
"Since launching counter-offensive 15 Taliban rebels have been killed and 10 others injured," Hussaini told Xinhua, adding that the security forces have been chasing the insurgents.
The official also admitted that a pro-government militia commander had been killed and three of his men injured in the fighting.
