UNITED NATIONS, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Monday condemned "in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack" that took place in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Sunday, which left more than 60 people dead.

"The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Afghanistan and they wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured," the Security Council said in a statement.

They reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, said the statement.

"The members of the Security Council reiterated that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed," it said.

On Sunday, a suicide bomber attacked a voter registration center set up in a school in western Kabul, killing more than 60, including 27 women and eight children, and injuring more than 120 others.
