LIVERPOOL, England, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Liverpool was named Monday as the host city for the 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, bringing the event to Britain for a third time.
The unanimous decision by the Federation of International Gymnastics (FIG) follows a combined bid between British Gymnastics, Liverpool City Council and UK Sport.
The Championships, which will be held at waterfront Echo Arena Liverpool, will be one of the largest international sporting events ever to be held in Liverpool with an estimated 600 gymnasts from 90 countries and regions taking part in 10 days of competition.
The local economic impact of the event is estimated at 7 million U.S.dollars.
UK's Sports Minister Tracey Crouch said, "This is fantastic news for Liverpool and the whole country. The UK has a brilliant track record for putting on the biggest sporting events and showcasing the best of Britain to the world.
Morinari Watanabe, President of FIG said, "The bid that British Gymnastics presented us is promising another great event in a city with a real love for the sport, and this is something for us to celebrate."?
