DOHA, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Qatar condemned the terrorist explosion that took place in Afghan southern city of Kandahar Tuesday, local media reported on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the country's firm position on rejecting violence and terrorism, regardless of the motives and reasons, Qatar-based English newspaper Gulf Times said.
Qatar also expressed its condolences to the families of the victims, the government and the people of Afghanistan.
On Tuesday, a suicide bomber setting in a minibus blasted at a security checkpoint near one of the city's main markets, killing seven people and dozens of others wounded. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Over the past a few months, Afghanistan has witnessed waves of terror attacks by the Islamic State and Taliban insurgents.
The ongoing activities of a large number of militant terrorists have put Afghan government under pressure as it prepares to hold long-delayed legislative elections.
