JERUSALEM, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli military started a wide-scale military exercise in the annexed Golan Heights on Sunday, amidst tensions along the Israeli-Syrian border.
A military spokesperson said in a statement that the drill "will span several days, during which heavy traffic will be felt and explosions will be heard."
Reservists will also take part in the exercise, the spokesperson said.
The military stressed that the exercise was "planned in advance as part of the training plan for 2018, and is intended to maintain the preparedness and fitness of the forces."
Last week, the military concluded two large exercises, one in southern Israel and the other was carried out by the air force throughout the country.
The exercise comes amidst tensions in the disputed border between Israel and Syria over Iran's effort to establish a military foothold in the war-torn country.
