TOKYO, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Monday as the market mood was soured by a powerful earthquake that struck Osaka and neighboring regions.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 171.42 points, or 0.75 percent, from Friday to close that day at 22,680.33.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 17.61 points, or 0.98 percent, to finish at 1,771.43.
Marine transportation, oil and coal product, and nonferrous metal-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
