VIENNA, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Cooperation between China and the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) is going from strength to strength, head of the office Simonetta Di Pippo said Tuesday.
Di Pippo said China has not only made great achievements in outer space exploration and its related activities but also demonstrated its commitment to international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space.
China plans to open up the China Space Station (CSS) to all the Member States of the United Nations with opportunities for flying their space experiments on board the Station.
This is, she said, a groundbreaking project and one that will bring concrete benefits to countries for advancing their space science and technology development.
Through an agreement between UNOOSA and the China National Space Administration (CNSA), China provides satellite imagery to countries in need of support in their preparedness, mitigation and early warning actions where the methods and techniques applied can benefit from Earth observation data.
She said the Declaration of Intent to cooperate on the Belt and Road Space Information Corridor, signed on Tuesday between China and UNOOSA, would bring the collaboration to a new level while applying space technology and its applications to countries along the Belt and Road.
