NAIROBI, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Kenya team hopes of getting promoted to the Africa Zone Group II of the Davis Cup are hanging by the thread ahead of their clash with Algeria in Nairobi.
With the Africa Zone Group III of the Davis Cup ending on Sunday, Namibia have taken a commanding lead in Pool B having edged out Kenya while Nigeria and Benin will square it out to know who sails through as the group leader in Pool A.
Namibia's Tukhula Jacobs beat Kenya's Ismael Changawa 7-6(2), 6-3 and went on to win despite Sheil Kotecha (Kenya) having dismissed Jean Erasmus (Namibia) 7-5, 6-3 in the singles.
"I believe we can still qualify for the next round," said Changawa Friday in Nairobi. "The tournament is getting tougher by the day and we must bring our best show on if we are to advance through and qualify to the Group II category of the David Cup."
On Friday, Mozambique will take on Uganda in the final Pool B. The winner of each pool will play off against the runner-up of the other pool to determine which two nations are promoted to Europe/Africa Zone Group II in 2019.
