TOKYO, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Tuesday as investor sentiment was dented by further reports that the United States may be planning to ban multiple countries from investing in U.S. tech firms.
As of 9:15 p.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 211.32 points, or 0.95 percent, from Monday to 22,126.83.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 15.00 points, or 0.87 percent, to 1,713.27.
Oil and coal product, mining, and iron and steel-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
