Jordan vows not to receive any more refugees from Syria

AMMAN, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Prime Minister Omar Razzaz said the kingdom will not receive new refugees from Syria under any circumstances.

Razzaz made the remarks to the press following a meeting on Tuesday with Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh.

He said Jordan has already received a large number of Syrian refugees and exceeded its capabilities in this regard.

"Jordan cannot receive more refugees," he said.

Razzaz added that the Jordanian borders are firmly protected by the armed forces.

"We are keen on a political solution to the crisis in Syria and we are concerned with our brotherly Syrian people and we exert our utmost efforts to reach a political solution," he said.

Razzaz's remarks came a few hours after the UN said around 45,000 Syrian civilians left their homes in southern Syria and headed to the Jordanian borders after fighting erupted between the Syrian army and rebels there.

Jordanian officials have reaffirmed on the Kingdom's support to the Syrian refugees, but warning that Jordan received enough number of Syrian refugees.

Currently, Jordan is home to 1.3 million Syrian refugees, according to official figures.?
