LISBON, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and visiting senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official You Quan have vowed to boost pragmatic cooperation between both countries in economic, finance and science and technology fields.
They made the remarks during their meeting on July 4 here. A CPC delegation headed by You Quan, member of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat and also head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, visited Portugal on July 4-7.
Hailing the fruitful results of bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various areas, You said the CPC attaches great importance to the development of Sino-Portuguese relations and is willing to further exchanges and dialogues with major Portuguese political parties.
He said China is willing to continue to deepen mutual political trust, step up cooperation in fields of economy and trade, strengthen communication and coordination in international affairs, jointly build "the Belt and Road", and lift the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.
Rebelo de Sousa said Portugal highly appreciates China's development achievements and its important contributions to world peace and development.
Portugual is full of expectations for deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership with China, he said, adding that the country is willing to strengthen pragmatic cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, finance, science and technology under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative for the benefit of the two peoples.
You during the Portugal tour also met with Deputy Secretary-General of the Socialist Party Ana Catarina Mendes, Vice President of Social Democratic Party Jose David Justino and Mayor of Porto Rui Moreira.
