TOKYO, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as the market mood was brightened by Wall Street's advance overnight and the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar, which gave exporters a boost.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 218.51 points, or 0.99 percent, from Monday to 22,270.69.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 15.09 points, or 0.88 percent, at 1,726.88.
Bank, nonferrous metal, and iron and steel-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
