PORTO ALEGRE, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Forward Jael scored one goal and set up another as Gremio rose to second in Brazil's Serie A standings with a 2-0 victory over leaders Flamengo on Saturday.
Jael put the hosts ahead with the a powerful header on the stroke of halftime and then turned provider with a perfectly weighted through ball, which former Changchun Yatai attacker Marinho calmly slotted into the bottom corner.
The result at Gremio Arena lifted the Porto Alegre side to third in the 20-team standings with 30 points, just four points behind Flamengo.
Second-placed Sao Paulo, who have 32 points, could take top spot if they beat Vasco da Gama on Sunday.
In Saturday's other matches, Santos drew 0-0 at Botafogo while Corinthians were also held to a goalless home draw by Atletico Paranaense.
