SAN SALVADOR, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Newly-established diplomatic ties between El Salvador and China serve to consolidate the existing relationship in trade and other areas, said Salvadoran Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Castaneda.

Their recent decision to formalize ties also reflects El Salvador's policy of opening up to the world "without bias" as it looks to drum up more business and cooperation, said Castaneda in an interview with Chinese media outlets at the ministry's headquarters in San Salvador.

As part of the agreement, El Salvador joined 177 other countries in adopting a United Nations resolution that upholds one-China policy.

Diplomatic ties entail stronger trade exchange and increased growth potential for El Salvador's small and medium-size enterprises, but also other sectors, such as education and tourism, said Castaneda.

A Salvadoran delegation is set to travel to China over the coming days to flesh out bilateral projects in trade and investment, culture and tourism, education, science and technology, for the benefit of Salvadoran society at large, he said.

One of the delegation's priorities will be to promote public works projects as part of China's Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to drive global growth by promoting the infrastructure, connectivity, financial mechanisms and public policies needed to spur trade, especially between the world's emerging and developing regions.
