RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo will join their Brazilian rivals Sao Paulo as participants at the next Florida Cup exhibition tournament in January, officials said on Tuesday.
German side Eintracht Frankfurt and Dutch giants Ajax are the other two confirmed teams for the January 8-13 event.
"Our fifth edition is the most competitive and exciting Florida Cup yet," tournament CEO Ricardo Villar said in a statement. "Fans will be able to enjoy top quality international football and many other attractions at the Universal Orlando Resort theme parks in a week full of entertainment for fans of all ages."
Flamengo CEO Bruno Spindel said: "Bringing Flamengo abroad will open the doors to make us stronger and more competitive in relation to the richest clubs in the planet.
"We hope to take our supporters, Rio de Janeiro and Brazil to the country where soccer has the most opportunity for development. We want to have the largest fan base in the world and the Florida Cup is a huge step towards the process of internationalizing our brand. It will be the opportunity to show the strength of our fanbase in Orlando to the world."
