MACAO, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) is preparing for a super typhoon, which is coming closer to the special administrative region on Friday.
Chui Sai On, chief executive of Macao SAR, directed members of the civil protection system to make their utmost efforts in preparing for the possible impact of the upcoming Typhoon Mangkhut.
During a meeting held at Macao Civil Protection Operations Centre late Thursday, Chui ordered the 29-member civil protection management team to raise its level of preparedness in response to the approach of the powerful storm.
He also urged the community to be adequately prepared and cooperate with the government's emergency planning.
Protecting the safety of the public was a key priority of the government, and public departments had made all-round plans for any contingency, to ensure the maintenance of social order during a typhoon period, he stressed.
During the meeting, all civil departments concerned were required to pay close attention to weather monitoring and forecasting, information distribution, flooding prevention, shelter centres operation, traffic control, power and water supply.
"Mangkhut" is forecast to enter the South China Sea on Sept. 15 morning. It will approach the coast of Guangdong Province and pose considerable threat to Macao and the Pearl River Delta.
