BOGOTA, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Dissidents of Colombia's disbanded Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) killed three geologists working for a Canadian gold mining company, the Colombian military said on Thursday.

The attack, which also left four people injured, occurred at a work site run by the multinational, Toronto-based Continental Gold, in northwestern Antioquia Province.

"They attacked a group who was conducting exploration work under Continental Gold in a cowardly, indiscriminate manner," the military said, adding that at the moment of the attack, the workers were resting.

The military said security procedures are in place and they are working with local police to find and detain those responsible.

The military rejects and condemns this type of terrorist attack, which infringes on human rights and acts against civilians and businesses bringing progress and economic stability to the region, the military said.

The FARC signed a peace deal with the government in 2016 and has since renounced violence and transformed into a political party. But a small number of soldiers refused to give up their criminal activities.
