RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- A second-half goal from Brazil international Lucas Paqueta handed Flamengo a 2-1 victory over Atletico Mineiro in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
William Arao gave Flamengo the lead in the second minute at Rio's Maracana Stadium by poking in a first-time effort after Miguel Trauco's cross.
Atletico equalized when Leonardo Silva met a Luan corner with a powerful header into the top right corner of Flamengo's goal.
Peru international full-back Trauco was again the provider for Flamengo's winner, delivering a precise cross from the left that Paqueta duly headed past goalkeeper Victor.
Paqueta, who has reportedly attracted interest from Barcelona, AC Milan and Manchester United, has now scored seven goals in 22 top flight matches in 2018.
This was just the second victory for Flamengo in all competitions since August 29.
The result left the Rio outfit fourth in the 20-team standings, three points behind leaders Sao Paulo, while Atletico dropping to sixth, nine points off the pace.
In other matches on Sunday, Gremio won 3-2 at home against Ceara. Hosts Atletico Paranaense beat Parana 3-0. Internacional drew 1-1 at Corinthians. Palmeiras won 1-0 at Sport. Cruzeiro overcame Santos 2-1 at home and and Botafogo won 4-3 at Vitoria.
