BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- It may be small in size, but Andorra has big hopes in the 3x3 basketball tournament at the Youth Summer Olympics in Buenos Aires.
The European country, which occupies just 468 square kms of territory and has a population of less than 73,000, is among the medal contenders in both the men's and women's tournaments here, which will be contested by 33 countries and regions.
Andorra's women's under-18 team is ranked third in the world while the men's side is seventh. The country is one of only seven to boast teams in both the men's and women's basketball 3x3 competitions, which will take place at Urban Park from October 7 to 17.
The women's team comprises Silvia Bardaji, Julia Marquez, Lies Bosma and Carla Solana while the men's outfit is made up of Albert Pons, Nil Pena Blanco, Von Marc Lacaste and Eric Hurtado.
The women will compete in Group C against France, Indonesia, Mexico and Argentina. The men are in Group B alongside Ukraine, Venezuela, Brazil and New Zealand.
Andorra's contingent of athletes will be striving for the country's second Youth Olympic gold medal following Patrik Ferreira Martins' judo triumph at the Singapore 2010 Games.
