XI'AN, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese men team defeated Serbia and was downed by Philippines on Friday, entering to the knockout stage of 2018 FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup.
When facing against Serbians, Zheng Yi broke the deadlock for China through a nice move, then his rival gave China a tough game. China had to stop Serbia from finishing through consecutive fouls, seeing its opponent dominate in the middle of the game.
With center Gu Yi's help, China turned the table and kept dashing after tough minutes. Jiang Huai contributed two outstanding move to the host team in one on one situation, helping his side win the match 21-13.
"My coach asked me to drove more and play more aggressively, considering that the European players move slower than us," said Jiang Huai after the match. After the victory, China had secured a top eight spot.
In the last game of Pool C, China lost to the Philippines 15-21. China will take on Hungary in the quarter-finals round.
Pool C's runner-up Slovenia will face against title favorite Latvia in the quarter-finals.
In the women's event, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Iran had entered the elimination round which will play on Sunday.
