ZHENGZHOU, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua has underlined the efforts of poverty alleviation through relocation as the country is pushing to win the battle against poverty.
The country should uphold the strategy of targeted poverty alleviation, implement existing policies and measures and ensure that relocated people can settle down and rise out of poverty, Hu said at a meeting from Monday to Tuesday.
The areas where residents need to be relocated should be designated strictly, and the 25-square-meter cap for the per capita floor area of the relocated must be strictly implemented to maintain policy stability, said Hu.
He urged that local authorities should reinforce the supervision of the quality of housing for the resettled residents.
After relocation, follow-up measures should be taken to lift the resettled residents out of poverty, including exporting labor to other areas, offering skill training and developing distinctive industries in different areas, he added.
In addition, funds for relocation projects should be guaranteed and assessment should be strengthened to ensure the quality of poverty relief with relocation, the vice premier said.
