ROME, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 Russian football fans were injured when a metro escalator in a busy Rome metro station collapsed on Tuesday night, local media reported.
Local media broadcast a video showing the moment of the collapse of the down escalator at the Repubblica metro station, with dozens of people tumbling and screaming.
RAI public broadcaster showed a number of ambulances and police gathered outside the station located in a busy central district, as the injured were being rescued and taken to hospital.
At least one of the injured has been hospitalized in serious condition, ANSA new agency reported, citing the Rome prefecture.
The Russian fans of CSK Moscow football team were heading to a Champions League match against Roma at the capital city's Stadio Olimpico.
