BELGRADE, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Partizan was defeated by French Asvel 78-89 (20-26, 17-22, 17-19, 24-22) in the fourth round of the basketball Eurocup here on Tuesday.
The sixth-ranked team of the French League gained an early lead against the third-ranked team of the Serbian Super League in the Group C of the competition played at Aleksandar Nikolic hall in front of more than 6,000 spectators.
Asvel led throughout the first quarter, and continued expanding the lead in the second.
In the second half, Partizan still could not find the solution for Asvel, especially for their offensive rebounds. The guest team led 67-54 after the third quarter.
The final quarter started with the two teams seeing a gap by 13 points. Partizan's Stefan Jankovic opened it with a three-pointer to awake the home fans in hope for a turnaround, but at last Asvel sealed its triumph and won 89-78.
Charles Kahudi was the most efficient player in Asvel with 21 points. Amine Noua added 14 points, while Kalnietis had 11 points and 10 assists.
Best player in Partizan was Jock Landale, who had 12 points.
With three triumphs so far, Asvel is now second in the group C, while Partizan has only one victory in fifth place.
The French team will play their next game at home against Russian Zenit, while Partizan will travel to Turkey against Ankara.
