RAMALLAH, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) senior official slammed Wednesday U.S.' move of promoting a draft resolution at UN to condemn the Islamic Hamas movement.
Saeb Erekat, secretary general of PLO executive committee, said in a press statement that it is Israel that should be condemned "for its war crimes against the Palestinian people."
His statement came after outgoing U.S. ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, said in a tweet that she wanted to get the UN General Assembly (UNGA) to condemn Hamas for firing rockets at Israel.
Hamas, which has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007, fired the rockets in retaliation for Israeli air force pounding Gaza with hundreds of bombs, demolishing high rises and killing at least 15 people.
Erekat described Haley's attempt "overturning the facts," urging the international community to "condemn and hold the Israeli occupation authority accountable for its continued war crimes against the Palestinian people" and "thwart Haley's project."
