KABUL, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces waged an anti-drug operation and destroyed a large amount of narcotics in eastern Paktia province overnight, the country' Ministry of Interior Affairs said Monday.
"The Counter-Narcotics Police of Afghanistan (CNPA) and Afghan Air Force carried out a special operation in Gul-e-Surkh locality of Jaji Aruob district of Paktia province Sunday night, destroying over 72 tons of hashish," the ministry said in a statement.
The destruction of the drugs was a heavy blow for insurgents and anti-government militants as they have been using profits from the illegal drugs to fund insurgency, the statement noted.
The CNPA forces also arrested five suspected persons and seized 26 rounds of weapons, nine communication radios, 18,000 rounds of bullets together with ammunition following the raid in the province, 100 km south of Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, according to the statement.
