JAKARTA, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Production of coffee in Indonesia is forecast to reach between 630,000 tons to 650,000 tons by the year end, the Indonesian coffee exporters association said on Tuesday.
A total of 400,000 tons would be shipped offshore and about 200,000 tons would be marketed in Indonesia, said Pranoto Soenarto, deputy chairman of the association.
"Obviously, the supply for the domestic market is more than sufficient. Should all of it not be absorbed by domestic buyers, the rest could be exported and it will certainly all absorbed by the offshore market," he said.
At the global market, Pranoto said the prices of the commodity have commenced improving and currently it touch 1.13 U.S. dollars per pound (0.4536 kg).
The United States is one of the major export markets for the Indonesian coffee as the country's coffee export to the United States grew 2.79 percent to 67,309.2 tons in 2016, according to data from the national statistics bureau.
Indonesia's coffee plantation covers a total of 1.23 million hectares of land across the archipelagic nation.
