VIENTIANE, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday in the Lao capital Vientiane to build a China-aided Lao national seismic monitoring network and data center.
Economic and commercial counselor of the Chinese embassy Wang Qihui said at the ceremony that the project is another symbol of the traditional friendship and cooperation between China and Laos.
He urged the Chinese engineers and technicians to work closely with the Lao side to complete the project construction on time and with sound quality.
Director General of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology under the Lao Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Khamany Khounphonh spoke highly of the China-assisted project, and expressed gratitude to China's efforts in implementation of the project.
The Lao seismic monitoring network and data center is designed to improve Laos' ability to withstand earthquake disasters, promote development of earthquake science and technology in Laos, protect the lives and property of Lao people, and provide a strong guarantee for economic and social development of Laos.
