BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Education has vowed to rectify problems of preschool education including community kindergartens, unlicensed kindergartens, or those driven by excessive profit-seeking or putting too much study pressure on kids.
"Kindergartens established by communities will be transformed into public ones or affordable private ones," Lyu Yugang, an elementary education official with the ministry, said Wednesday.
Lyu made the remarks at a press conference in Jinan, east China's Shandong Province where he elaborated on a preschool education reform directive released earlier this month.
Lyu said the authorities will inspect unlicensed kindergartens, certify those that are qualified and suspend or close those that fail to meet safety or hygiene standards.
"Excessive profit-seeking in establishing or operating kindergartens will be strictly curbed," Lyu said.
