BEIRUT, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said Thursday it is working to find secure shelters for the refugees in Lebanon ahead of a new winter storm expected this weekend, local media reported.
UNHCR Representative in Lebanon Mireille Girard was quoted by the National News Agency as saying that it is very important to secure shelters for these refugees before their tents get flooded again with rain water.
Girard said that draining the camps of flood water would be of little use if the new storm causes flooding again.
She recommended, instead, building better drainage systems to prevent the recurrence of this week's devastating floods.
A big storm, dubbed Norma, hit Lebanon on Sunday, causing heavy damage in the refugee camps in Lebanon.
UNHCR spokesperson Lisa Abou Khaled told Xinhua on Wednesday that 150 camps hosting about 8,000 Syrian refugees were affected by the storm.
