MELBOURNE, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- China's Wang Yafan was knocked out of the Australian Open at the second round stage on Wednesday by world No. 15 Ashley Barty, going down 6-2, 6-3.
Despite a straight-sets victory against Ellen Perez in the first round, Wang couldn't find her rhythm against local favorite Barty.
"I think I could have been better today," Wang told Xinhua after the match.
"But Barty's serve is a big threat and I had trouble returning the ball."
Outgunned on the baseline and on the back foot for much of the match, Wang said she had learned a lot from what was a difficult contest.
"I should have been more offensive but she is a smart all-round player and I feel I was a little too anxious."
"It might have helped my game if I had attacked more."
