LIMA, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Former Uruguay international midfielder Egidio Arevalo has joined Peruvian first division club Deportivo Municipal on a free transfer from Paraguay's Club Libertad.
The 37-year-old arrived in Lima late on Wednesday to finalize personal terms of a one-year deal with the four-time Peruvian champions.
"Now it's time to rest and be ready to contribute," Arevalo told reporters. "I'm looking forward to getting to know the players and adapting as quickly as possible. We have important challenges ahead and we must be willing to do everything to achieve our objectives."
Deportivo, who have not won a first division title since 1950, finished 10th in the country's 16-team Clausura top-flight standings in 2018.
Arevalo was capped 90 times for Uruguay's national team from 2006 to 2017 and was a part of the Celeste's 2010 and 2014 World Cup squads.
