Myanmar gov't officials trained for English language proficiency

YANGON, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- An English language proficiency training course has been opened for Myanmar government officials in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar News Agency reported Tuesday.

The English Language Proficiency Course for government officials, divided in three sessions, is jointly conducted by Myanmar's Union Civil Service Board and the Victoria University of New Zealand.

The first session runs from Jan. 21 to Feb. 28, while the second from May 6 to July 11 and the third from Sept. 9 to Nov. 14.

The training course comprises the subjects relating to strategies for the reform of the government employees, definition of good governance and its appliances, transparency, responsibility, accountability, integrity, leadership skill, work productivity, gaining people's trust and e-government.

The course puts emphasis on vocabulary enrichment and improving spoken English fluency.

Meanwhile, Myanmar and Britain have been cooperating in promoting and developing use of English language under a memorandum of understanding signed between Myanmar's Education Ministry and the British Council based in Yangon in March 2014.
